What is a TMP file?
TMP file is the Temporary File generated by the software program automatically, which usually serves as a backup file or a cache file. TMP file is sometimes generated as an invisible file, and when the schedule gets closed, it is frequently deleted. TMP files can also be created to temporarily include the information, whereas a new file is generated. TMP files are created to temporarily hold the data on your computer when using any specific software program. Several computer applications also generate these files, usually when the running application cannot distribute sufficient memory for the task on which it is working on.
Even if the TMP files are meant to be automatically deleted after their purpose is served well, it does not always happen as it is supposed to be. TMP files consist of the critical application data, which is not a good idea to remove the files manually unless you are unaware that the TMP file’s data is no longer required. If you ate already aware of the data which is required or not, it becomes very simple and safe to delete the unrequired TMP file.
Steps to open Tmp file
- Search for the appropriate application that created the file
- Make a Right-tap on the TMP file.
- Click on the Open.
- Pick up the corresponding application for this TMP file
TMP files can be opened using a notepad; however, it is based on the file type; temporary files may not be human-readable.
Step 1:- Right-click on the TMP file that you wish to play.
Step 2:- Select the “Open.” Button.
Step 3:- choose the “Notepad” from the record of the available programs.

In window systems, you just have to follow these simple steps to recover the Tmp files:
- Tap the start menu bar
- Then click the search button.
- Type the filename with the .tmp file extension.
- Then hit enter and get the file opened.
How to Convert TMP Files to Word?
Step 1:- Click on the “Folder” icon located in the bottom left corner of the screen to open an Explorer window.
Step 2:- Browse to the directory that includes your .tmp files. Generally, this is a similar directory where you can save the MS Word files.
Step 3:- Click on the “Organize” button and then on “Folder and Search Options” to open the Folder Options dialog box.
Step 4:- Click on the “View” tab.
Step 5:- Remove the checkbox next to the “Hide extensions for known file types.”
Step 6:- Click on the “OK” button to close the dialog box.
Step 7:- Right-click on the .tmp file that you want to convert to Word.
Step 8:- Select the “Rename.” option
Step 9:- Select the entire file name and delete it.
Step 10:- Open your file in Word.
